What Does the Free Shockwave Therapy Assessment Include?
At Spectrum Therapeutics of NJ, we offer a no-cost, no-obligation shockwave therapy assessment with Dr. Rob Letizia, PT, DPT. This is a chance to sit down one-on-one with a doctor of physical therapy who has over 25 years of clinical experience and find out whether extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) could help your condition.
During the assessment, you can expect:
- A focused evaluation of your pain, injury history, and current limitations
- A hands-on examination of the affected area
- An honest conversation about whether shockwave therapy is a good fit for you
- A clear explanation of what treatment would look like, including number of sessions and expected outcomes
- Time to ask questions with zero pressure to commit
This assessment typically takes 15 to 20 minutes. You will leave with a straight answer about your options.
How We Know Whether Shockwave Will Work for You — Before You Pay for It
This is the part that makes us different, and it is worth understanding before you book anywhere.
Most clinics offering shockwave — and locally that is often a chiropractic office — will sell you a package of six or twelve sessions up front, before anyone knows whether the treatment is going to engage your tissue at all. You pay first and find out later.
We test first. Shockwave only helps when the target tissue actually responds to the acoustic waves. So rather than assume it will, we check for that response directly: during the first application, Dr. Letizia looks for a specific biofeedback response at the treatment site — a clear, identifiable sign that the tissue is reacting the way it has to for shockwave to do anything useful.
Two things follow from that, and both are in your favor:
-
No biofeedback response, no treatment, no charge. If your tissue does not respond, we stop there. You are not billed for the treatment, and you are not sold a package you were never going to benefit from. You leave with an honest explanation of what we think is actually driving your pain and what would help instead.
-
A response means we are on the right tissue. When we do get that feedback, we know the treatment is engaging the structure we are targeting — and we can give you a realistic estimate of how many sessions to expect rather than a number pulled off a price sheet.
We do not know of another clinic in the area that screens this way or that will stop and waive the charge when the response is not there. It is also why our own published outcomes hold up: we are not treating people who were never going to respond. Across our shockwave patients, 88% resolved or much improved (15 of 17) who completed care, and not one of the 23 has required a cortisone injection or surgery.
Honest caveat: a biofeedback response tells us the tissue is engaging with the treatment. It is a screening step, not a promise of a specific outcome — no one can guarantee that, and you should be skeptical of anyone who does.

Who Qualifies for a Free Shockwave Assessment?
If you are dealing with a musculoskeletal condition that has not responded well to rest, medication, or traditional physical therapy, you are likely a good candidate for this assessment. We commonly see patients from Wayne, Pompton Lakes, Lincoln Park, Totowa, and throughout Passaic County who have been struggling with pain for weeks or even months without real progress.
You do not need a referral. You do not need to be a current patient. If you have a nagging tendon issue, chronic heel pain, or a stubborn soft tissue injury, this assessment is designed for you.
What Conditions Does Shockwave Therapy Treat?
Shockwave therapy uses acoustic pressure waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissue. It works especially well for chronic tendon problems and conditions where the body's natural repair process has stalled. Common conditions treated with ESWT include:
-
Plantar fasciitis and chronic heel pain
- Achilles tendinopathy
-
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
-
Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
-
Rotator cuff tendinopathy and calcific tendinitis
-
Patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee)
-
Hip bursitis and gluteal tendinopathy
-
Shin splints and stress reactions

What Happens During the Assessment?
There is nothing invasive about this visit. Dr. Letizia will talk with you about your symptoms, review any imaging or medical records you bring, and perform a brief physical examination. From there, he will give you his clinical opinion on whether ESWT is appropriate for your situation.
If shockwave therapy is a good match, he will outline a treatment plan, explain what each session involves, and answer every question you have. If it is not the right approach, he will tell you that directly and suggest other options that make more sense.
Is There Really No Obligation?
None. This assessment exists because we know most people have questions about shockwave therapy before they try it. They want to understand what it feels like, whether it will work for their specific problem, and what the cost looks like. A free assessment removes the guesswork.
We would rather you make an informed decision than a pressured one. Many patients who come in for the assessment end up starting treatment, but plenty of others simply walk away with better information about their condition. Both outcomes are fine.
