Posture in the Work Place

Maintaining correct posture is often talked about, but it can be difficult to maintain the neutral alignment of the spine throughout the workday. However, taking short breaks every 10, 15, or 30 minutes can work wonders in preventing poor posture and alleviating any symptoms you may have.
In fact, studies have shown that taking microbreaks during prolonged sitting can significantly reduce back pain and discomfort.
To maintain good posture, it is important to keep your head facing forward, especially if you work with multiple monitors. If your work does cause stress in your body, incorporating stretches in your routine can help to alleviate any discomfort caused by these repetitive tasks.
Additionally, it is important to keep your chest and shoulders up. Gravity is always pulling us down, so we need to work in the opposite direction to counteract this force.
However, this does not mean that slouching is inherently bad. In fact, some studies have shown that slouching can relieve pressure on the spine and reduce pain. The key is to avoid a constant slouch or a constant erect posture. Instead, it is important to move in and out of different postures throughout the day to avoid putting excessive force on any one part of the body.
