MYTH: Flexibility and Mobility Are the Same

Too often, people will use the terms interchangeably.
REALITY: Flexibility and mobility are different, and you can actually exceed at one and have difficulty in the other.
FLEXIBILITY has to do with stretching muscles. The more you practice it, the more your muscles can withstand being stretched. Muscles actually have elastic components with the intention to have them stretch. Once you have worked on lengthening and opening your muscles, it can lead to greater strength and limit pain.
MOBILITY has to do with your joint moving throughout a range of motion.
FLEXIBILITY has to do with stretching, mobility has to do with joint movement.
In order to have good JOINT mobility, muscle flexibility can be immensely helpful.
Many blame ‘tightness’ on muscle flexibility, when in truth, their issue is primarily related to range of motion.
Knowing the difference can help with prevention, strengthening, identifying, and solving different issues throughout your body.
